Emeritus Professor Chandra Lalwani
Logistics Institute, Business School of Hull University UK
* Biography
Chandra is Emeritus Professor at the University of Hull. Prior to joining the University of Hull he was with Cardiff Business School at Cardiff University and was responsible for doctoral research in logistics, operations and supply chain management. He holds a BEng. in Electrical Engineering, a MEng. in Control Systems and another MEng. in Systems Engineering. He obtained his PhD from the University of Wales in 1978 based on his research on the dynamic modelling of commodity flows systems.
Positions:
* Professor of Supply Chain Management in Business School
* Academic Director, the University of Hull Logistics Institute
* Chief Editor (Europe) International Journal of Logistics Management
* Teaching
Chandras current teaching interests are in supply chain management, retail logistics, logistics and transport modelling, discrete event simulation, and electronic commerce impact on supply chain logistics. He has also successfully supervised a large number of Masters and PhD candidates, and is currently supervising a number of PhD students. Dr Lalwani was a Director of Executive Programmes in Maritime Studies and International Transport at Cardiff University. During this period he directed some highly successful programmes in port management and operations, maritime transport and containerisation in Hong Kong, India, and the UK.
* Research
Chandras primary areas of research are logistics, transport and supply chain management. His current research focus is on integration of transport in supply chains, retail logistics, supply chain modelling, ICT applications in supply chains and mass customised logistics. Before joining the Business School at the University of Hull, Professor Lalwani was a Deputy Director and Co-investigator at Cardiff Business School on the EPSRC Cardiff University Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre (over ?3.25 million research grant) and Principal Investigator on one of its three flagship research projects, namely, Mass Customised Collaborative Logistics in Sustainable Manufacture. His research activities on these projects involving a number of industrial partners in retail, steel, and construction sectors continue through research collaboration between the Institute of Logistics at Hull and Cardiff Business School. He was Principal Investigator on the EPSRC LINK grant on Future Integrated Transport project Integrating Transport and eCommerce in Supply Chain Logistics (http://www.itels.org.uk/) and Co-investigator on the EPSRC Network grant European University Research and Operations Network in Logistics. Currently, he is Principal Investigator on EU Asia IT&C research project Understanding Potential Synergies in Manufacturing Supply Chains between Europe and India : USER-MIND (http://www.usermind.org/) and Co-investigator on EPSRC network project on RFID and EPSRC INTERACT project with China both at the Business School in The University of Hull. Professor Lalwani is the Programme Chair for highly rated International Symposium in Logistics (http://www.isl21.org/).
Chandra has recently been appointed as Editor of the International Journal of Logistics Management published by Emerald and he is the member of the EPSRC funded Cardiff University Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre steering and advisory group.
